Make way for my Gibby!

Dear Reader,

One of my favorite stories for my mom to tell me was about a mother duck and her 8 ducklings. As the story waddles on, one of the ducklings gets lost. That duck was named Gibby and I am cooking her! First I washed her, then defrosted her in my microwave. It took longer than I thought cause she barely fit in it. I never thought that I would be disgusted by any kind of cooking, but poultry is definitely not my thing! I named her Gibby because I had to take out the giblet. I thought it would be easy but it wasn't. My mom literally had to hold the duck while I yanked it out! After washing my hands until they bled, I stuffed Gibby with onions. They aren't kidding when they say you cry when you cut onions up; I was bawling. I will have to remember this trick next time I want something. Sobbing, I stuck Gibby in the oven and had 20 minutes to create an orange sauce. 20 minutes later I took her out, flipped her over and basted her . Sadly, I had to keep repeating every 20 minutes for 3 1/2 hours! Multi-tasking, I whipped up some mashed potatoes and sauteed garlic and asparagus. Gibby taught me two very important things. Important thing number 1: It is very difficult to cook when your kitchen is being remodeled ( my mom had to stash all the pantry food in my room so if I want flour my mom tells me to look under my bed! Thanks mom!) and important thing number 2: NEVER, under ANY circumstances, EVER name your duck! You won't have the guts to eat it! Or giblets for that matter! RIP Gibby!

Sugar Snow Balls

Dear Reader,
OK, you got me, they were supposed to be Sugar Snow Balls but when they came out of the oven they turned out to be Sugar Snow PATTIES! Flat as a pancake. Columbus thought that he had it hard but I dare him to try THIS recipe. I wonder if he will discover that everything can't be round as much as you want it to be.
In the process of being a chef it is normal to make tasty mistakes. And boy, did I make A LOT! First I put too much butter, and I know that if Julia Child was here she would disagree but seriously, there was way too much butter. Second, when I put the dough on the pan, I made them like cookies.... THIRD, when I took them out you are supposed to put them in a zip lock bag filled with powdered sugar. But when I put the first patty in it was so soft that it crumbled! I decided to put the patties on a plate and poured powdered sugar over them.
Columbus wanted the world to be round. I wanted my snow balls to be round. Sometimes when you wish for something, it doesn't come true. But sometimes what you get is BETTER. Like my Snow PATTIES!!!!

My First Day of cooking at 11

Dear Reader,
Hello and welcome to my blog. I am in love with the movie Julie And Julia so I have decided to make my own blog about cooking. My first entry is about beignets or french doughnuts. I had bought the mix for it at a little coffee stand in New Orleans. I made them this morning for my brother and they tasted amazing. Wait, is it OK for a cook to compliment her own food? Well, I am doing it anyways. It was fluffy and crunchy and ohhhhhh I wanted to make more! For dinner I am creating a gourmet treat! I hope nothing goes wrong!
